School Bullying Takes Many Forms
|
|
Loss of appetite Hypervigilance Exaggerated startle response Tearfulness Irritability Sudden angry or violent outbursts Sleep problems and nightmares Bedwetting Avoidance behaviours Nervousness, anxiety |
Damaged clothing/property
Unexplained cuts, bruises, scratches Irrational or impulsive behaviour Loss of interest Taking unusual route to school Poor concentration Impaired memory Headaches and stomach aches Low self-esteem An overwhelming sense of injustice |
Of course, this is not an exhaustive list and your child may be experiencing other symptoms as well. The stress caused by school bullying can lead to serious health problems. Combined with the overwhelming anger, depression and sense of hopelessness it's not a wonder that targets of school bullying can take years to recover. Others end their suffering through suicide, or "bullycide" as it has come to be known.
Free From Bullies
Helps You to Help Your Child
Robyn and Wendy have done more than give parents
a few tips and tricks. They explain exactly what the
victims need to do in simple, easy-to-follow steps...
Bullying has been the subject of much media attention of late, given the sad fact that despite research into how to stop school bullying many children continue to be bullied every day.
For years parents have been frustrated in their attempts to stop children being bullied. In fact, approximately 50% of children report being bullied at some time and 15% report being bullied on a daily basis. This means that in a class of 30 students, you can expect that between 4 and 5 students are bullied every day and, unfortunately they often feel too humiliated or too fearful to ask for help.
The outlook for the bully is also of concern. Bullies are more likely to have a criminal conviction by age 24 and are more likely to engage in violent behaviour after leaving school. Approximately 60% of former school bullies have criminal records.

Bullying effects everyone involved and if it is not stopped it translates into bullying in the workplace and in the home, as young bullies become adult bullies, and young victims become adult victims.
No-one deserves to be bullied, and every child, has the right to feel safe.
Robyn Collins and Wendy Nichols, have written Free From Bullies, which offers a formula for dealing with bullying. With over 39 years of teaching experience in 14 different schools between them, they wrote the book to help those children who have 'slipped through the cracks' despite the best efforts of teachers and school management. The central theme is that parents and schools must help victims of bullying take back control.
Robyn and Wendy have done more than give parents a few tips and tricks. They explain exactly what the victims need to do in simple, easy-to-follow steps and include downloadable templates of letters and forms to be used to record and report bullying.
